| | | Zanthia is probably the one in Kyrandia with the highest combination of both sanity and intelligence, and the most down to earth of the Mystics. Which says more about everyone else than about her, really, but she has a fair bit of both. She can be a bit of a loner simply by habit -- and because she lacks patience for most stupid, annoying or hopeless people -- but she's not shy and doesn't avoid enjoyable company. She can however be rather snarky and sarcastic, but mostly with humorous intent.
She's a very independent woman, quite capable of standing up for herself, and perfectly okay with smacking someone if they deserve it (but only then). However, it also means she's very careful about letting herself depend on or really open herself up to someone. In other areas, however, she's sure of herself, and while she can be quite stubborn, she's able to admit her mistakes and do what she can to correct them.
Though she's fine with going about her day-to-day business, she has a bit of an adventurous side. She doesn't go looking for trouble, but if it finds her, she's not afraid to face it. She also has a penchant for dangerous animals, and has for example played fetch with a dinosaur, and has a swamp frog monster living outside her house.

| | | | Tall, blonde and curvy, and very beautiful. She keeps her thick, wavy hair long, occasionally tying it back for convenience. She doesn't usually wear makeup (she doesn't really need to), although she might on occasion. She's not shy about her body, although she doesn't show it off, either. She tends to favour long, simple dresses of various colours, and dark boots, largely because they're much more convenient when you live in the swamp. She's got a large wardrobe though, and what she wears may depend entirely on mood. | | | | |

| | | Zanthia was born to two farmers living in Morningmist Valley, in the Kingdom of Kyrandia. She showed an aptitute for magic already at a young age, and was hand-picked to be taught to harness her powers and become a Royal Mystic. She lived and studied in Kyrandia Castle, under the tutelage of Darm, the oldest of the Royal Mystics, as well as the other Mystics, Kallak and Brynn.
When Zanthia was 9, Prince Brandon, the heir to the throne, was born to King William and Queen Katherine. Six months later, the King and Queen were viciously murdered by Malcolm the Jester, who attempted to take over the Kyragem, but the Royal Mystics successfully trapped Malcolm inside the castle. Brandon was raised by Kallak, while Zanthia went to live with Darm and Brandywine in Timbermist Woods. Living with a fire-breathing dragon (even if Brandywine was capable of human speech, and quite friendly) changed her idea of 'pets' quite a bit, and Brandywine would occasionally take her flying over the large island.
A few years later, she went away to Magician's School, leaving Kyrandia by herself for the first time. She studied for several years, mostly potion-making, but also various other forms of magic, including scroll-writing, wordless spells, and object enchantments. She travelled widely during her apprenticeship, but she eventually returned to Kyrandia, now able to officially take on the role as Royal Mystic. The Mystics were the highest authority when leadership was needed, but most problems were taken care of my local sheriffs and the like. Zanthia got a cabin in Darkmoor Swamp in Faeriewood, the forest closest to Castle Island, and some way away from the rest of the Mystics, who were on the other side of the Shadowland -- not that this stopped her from visiting them every now and then.
She mostly kept to herself (as most people exasperated her), making potions for those in need, and occasionally travelling. She befriended a small creature named Faun living in the forest close to her, who served as a mix of assistant, companion and annoying sidekick, although he preferred to stay at home and mess around rather than join Zanthia on her adventures. However, with the Kyragem -- the source of all magic in Kyrandia -- was locked inside the castle with Malcolm, magic was dwindling in the country.
When Zanthia was 27, Malcolm broke free of the Mystic's spell, with the help of the Kyragem, which he had seized control of and corrupted. Zanthia was eventually the last Mystic left, the rest having been turned to stone by Malcolm, and she helped the now grown Brandon on his quest to avenge his parents (even if she thought he was annoyingly dim). However, eventually Malcolm caught up with Zanthia as well, turning her into stone and trapping her inside the castle. Thankfully, Brandon managed to turn the tables, and tricked Malcolm to turn himself into stone. The Kyragem was restored, and so were all the Mystics, Zanthia included.
Brandon was made King, with Kallak as his counsellor, and now that they could finally be Royal Mystics again, Zanthia would occasionally return to the castle. Most of the time, however, she remained living in the swamp, where she was most comfortable. She eventually befriended (well, sort of) the aspiring magician Marko, who wanted to court her, and she considers him her "sort of boyfriend but not really." She does think he's fairly charming, even if he's not the most impressive.
